Course: THEO 360, Advanced Topics in Theology Instructor: Professor Matthew Coomber (Theology) Program Description Through the backdrop of the Nazi holocaust, “Genocide and Rebellion” offers students a unique on-site opportunity to explore the theological issues that surround both the problem of genocide and also the self-sacrificial decisions of those who choose to resist its evil. We will travel through Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria to track the rise and fall of German National-Socialism, learn how the Reich’s Church altered Christian doctrine to support Hitler’s goals, and how others drew upon their faith in their attempts to stop him. We will gain powerful insights into the crimes of the Nazis at such sites as Wannsee, Dachau, Terezin, and Lidice. Insights into the courageous efforts of the resisters will be gained at White Rose sites, Otto Weidt's workshop, and the memorial where Czech paratroopers of Operation Anthropoid fought to the end.
