Presentation description: This ethics presentation centers the concept of radical self-care as originally defined by Audre Lorde and Angela Davis. Using this concept to frame how we consider our personal and professional self-care allows us to better meet the needs of others in our lives and follow our professional ethical standards. This presentation will provide ideas for wellness planning into a framework of truly taking care of your body, mind, and spirit.

Presentation objectives:

  • Using an anti-oppressive lens, connect the Code of Social Work Ethics to the concepts of radical self-care and the importance of boundaries in social work practice
  • Use radical self-care and cultural humility in social work settings to support ethical behavior of social workers in all areas of social work practice
  • Increase knowledge about radical self-care in relation to social work ethics
