Course: MSW 910, Mental Health Policies and Practices in India and the United States (three credits) Instructor: Dr. Johny Augustine, Assistant Professor of Social Work Tentative Price: $3,885 Program Description This elective MSW course emphasizes comparative approaches to the analysis of mental health policies and practices in India and the US. Course content includes: international and comparative approaches in social welfare policy and practice, mental health practice and policy in India and in the United States, and cross-cultural learning exchanges with social work students and mental health professionals in India. Students interested in international and trans-national comparisons of social welfare programs and policies will find this course useful in applying social work principles, sills, and empowerment perspective in cross-cultural social work practice. The participating social work institution is Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at Kollam. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is an autonomous university that offers a masters program in social work and is engaged in numerous social initiatives in the local community and across the state of Kerala. Students will get a chance to observe and participate in those community initiatives, visit several social service agencies located in the state of Kerala including government and private health and mental health institutions that take care orphaned and street children, old-age homes, and several community development projects. In addition, students get a chance to interact with social work students to Amrita University Masters program, and several other schools of social work in the state. The location is ideal for students to understand the mental health and social development issues in the country while living in a safe environment. Step 2: Sign a Liability Form. Step 3: Sign a Travel Waiver form. Step 4: Submit a $500 application deposit on TouchNet. Step 5: If your application is approved, log back in to follow the next steps for accepted students. Payment Deadlines and Instructions September 15, 2017: $500 deposit due Submit a $500 application deposit on TouchNet. October 15, 2017: $1,000 commitment fee due Submit a $1,000 commitment fee on TouchNet. November 30, 2017: remaining balance due Turn in your final payment by check to Student Accounts or pay by e-check or credit card on Beeline. Make checks payable to St. Ambrose University. Payment Details The $500 deposit is refundable ONLY if you are not accepted or if the program is canceled. If you are accepted, all payments are non-refundable after each payment deadline. The cost for this program will be added to your Fall semester bill. All payments are deducted from the total program cost. Failure to meet payment deadlines may jeopardize your place in the program. Credit card users will incur additional service fees. The final payment is non-refundable after November 30.
